Nederland Community Presbyterian Church

The Little Brown Church with a Bell

Staff & Leadership

As a small church our needs for staff are modest. While few in number, our group is huge in generosity, in heart and most especially in talent. As a congregation we have much for which to be grateful.

Worship Pianist and Church Music Facilitator

Nederland Community Presbyterian Church has a recent history of fine music both as part of its Sunday worship as well as through the concert series it houses through the Mountain Community Music and Arts Association. We're pleased to have an accompanist who can continue to develop our music program.

For three years, John McDowell was a chef--apprentice to Ruedi Elsener--at the Red Lion Inn. He served two years as music director at St Martin de Porres Catholic Church, completed a baccalaureate degree in biology and worked as a staff scientist at ConocoPhillips. Growing a happy family, he now teaches piano to children and works as a carpenter. In some places he might be known as a polymath.

Our worship is enhanced by John's broad background in various music forms, his ability to improvise and his enthusiasm for creating integrity to the flow of the service. We are also especially pleased that his wife Christian and family join us on Sunday mornings.

Nursery Caregiver

Always patient and steady in effort, Judy MacDougall is paid staff and a church member. She loyally greets our young children and infants who enjoy their experience in the nursery after the "Time with the Children" in worship.

Pastor & Music Director
Our minister oversees the direction of our church family and leads us in worship and music. The son of Methodist minister, he grew up singing. His training in choral performance and love a music create a core belief that music and worship are synonymous.

Likewise, his years in Christian Education, Congregational Life & Youth Ministry give him an understanding that the heart of a church is the family unity of its congregants.

Worship Pianist / Accompanist

Rosalie Bargmann is a member of our church family who offers ongoing support to our church music program by substituting when John is not available.

With initial piano training at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and several more years at North Central College in Illinois, Rosalie served as pianist and organist at United Methodist Church in Homewood, Illinois and taught public elementary school. Throughout the years she has maintained a studio for teaching piano.
